Taurasi had played for the Mercury since she was drafted first pick overall in 2004.
Taurasi was a key player for the Mercury during 2007, 2009, and 2014 when she, along with Cappie Pondexter and Penny Taylor (the "Big Three"), helped the Phoenix Mercury win the championship in those years.
In 2016 Taurasi was the only one of the Big Three left resulting in her becoming the major leader for the Mercury.
Outside of the Mercury Taurasi also had many victories such as the Olympics. She played in the 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 Olympics with Team USA winning gold each time. This led her to become the first baksetball player to win 6 Olympic gold medals.
On August 3, 2024 Taurasi became the first player in WNBA history to reach the milestone of 10,000 career points reaching the goal with a three-pointer. This victory along with already being the leagues all-time leading scorer, resulted in Taurasi being regarded as the WNBA's greatest player.
She played up until 2025 at the age of 42 ending her incredible career.
Taurasi is going to get one of the highest honors for a basketball player in August of 2026, her jersey (No. 3) will be retired and raised into the rafters cementing her legacy as a Mercury legend.
